Why Gophers Can Be a Problem for HOAs
Gophers are more than an aesthetic nuisance.
Their underground tunneling can disturb plant roots, damage landscaped areas, create mounds throughout common areas, and contribute to irrigation problems. In an HOA community, even a relatively small gopher population can become noticeable because residents see the damage throughout shared landscaping.

Our preferred approach is to target the gopher directly with a trap placed within its active tunnel system.
Once a gopher is successfully trapped, it can be removed from the property. This provides a straightforward solution: identify the active gopher, trap it, remove it, and continue monitoring for additional activity.
For HOA environments, that targeted approach can be especially valuable.
Reducing the Risk of Secondary Exposure
One of the primary reasons we prefer trapping is that it avoids introducing rodenticide into the gopher's burrow.
When poison is used, there can be concerns about unintended exposure to animals that may encounter bait or a poisoned animal. Depending on the product and circumstances, this can include pets, wildlife, and other non-target animals.
Trapping eliminates the need to introduce that poison into the gopher's underground system.
That doesn't mean every situation can or should be handled exclusively with traps. There are circumstances where other control methods may be appropriate. However, when trapping is practical and effective, we believe it is the better choice for many HOAs.
A Better Fit for HOA Communities
A community may have hundreds of residents, children using common areas, pets being walked throughout the property, and extensive landscaped areas that require ongoing maintenance.
Because of this, HOA pest management should consider more than simply eliminating the pest.
